H&S Mangement Safety

Saturday 04th, November

A root cause analysis of accidents investigated by the HSA shows that 80% of failures can be traced back to failures in management systems.

Every employer should have a safety management system appropriate to the size of the organisation and the nature of
the working environment. For example an office environment with 8 - 10 employees will have a vastly different system from a construction site, warehouse or production facility with similar numbers of employees.

For all employers the Management systems work best when it’s appropriate to the work force and all members of
staff are involved. The type and nature of Safety Management systems range from an in house system managed and audited by the company to an accredited ISO system OHSAS 18001.

Methodology

1.  Meet with the Client and carry out a full company gap analysis audit,

2.  Identify the client needs and discuss the requirements with the Client.

3.  Agree the type of management system to be implemented. (is it to be accredited)

4.  Set out a time line for completion, including any review dates if necessary,

5.  Prepare the system through a combination of onsite and off-site work.

6.  Present the system to the client for approval.

7.  Provide employee induction training on completion of the system.

8.  Agree a regular auditing function to monitor the system and make amendments as required. (frequency is client specific)

The objective is to ensure that, following your safety management system reduces the risk of
accidents/incidents, improves the safety culture in the workplace and ensure employers and employees meet            their statutory duties under H & S legislation. This can be achieved in a cost effective manner with minimal
impact on day to day production and work tasks.
